About

My prime interest as an artist lies in the abstract qualities inherent in paint and how they are able to be used as a means to access complex emotions in much the same way as is possible with music.

I have a strong post modernist interest in an awareness of the formal elements at play in art making. In as much as an image is being suggested in a painting, I would also like the viewer to question that illusion. By highlighting the formal elements that make up an image, questions can be raised about how it is we read and interpret our world and the assumptions we draw from this interpretation.

I see painting as a way of peeling back the layers of assumption in order to achieve a richer understanding of the world around us.
